U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) 1998 petroleum assessment of the Arctic Refuge coastal plain, and the USGS's 1998 report on the oil and gas resource potential of the Arctic Refuge's 1002 Area.

Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton's 2003 testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Resourses about the Arctic Refuge.

In 2003 the Government Accounting Office (GAO) presented findings on the management and oversight of oil and gas activities on National Wildlife Refuges in: "National Wildlife Refuges: Improvement Needed in the Management and Oversight of Oil and Gas Activities on Federal Lands".

Also in 2003, the National Research Council produced the report: "Cumulative Environmental Effects of Oil and Gas Activities on Alaska's North Slope."

The U.S. Geological Survey updated their petroleum assessment within the Arctic Refuge's 1002 Area in 2005 in: "Undiscovered oil resources in the Federal portion of the 1002 Area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: an economic update".

The Energy Information Administration assessed crude oil production in the Arctic Refuge, and its expected economic impacts, in their May 2008 report: "Analysis of Crude Oil Production in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge".
